About the brand
Welcome Divine Beauty 💫
Firstly, I want to thank you for showing interest in my jewellery and for having visited my website and,
secondly, I would like to introduce you to my brand through a little description of me.
My name is Amanda, I was born in Geneva, Switzerland. I am mixed race by my parents. My mother, who is herself a mix between her mother who was from the Republic of Central Africa and her father who was a descendant of an indigenous tribe of the Caribbean, called « Arawak » and, by my father, who is Swiss-German.
It is important for me to start with my origins because it is this which make the person that I am today.
I have always loved body jewellery and it was always quite difficult to find it, so, I decided to create some for myself. I then realized that maybe, possibly, other people around the globe were searching and looking for the same type of jewellery. So I decided to create a brand for my jewellery and to set up a website to be able to share with you my creations.
I came up with DIVINITY OF AFRICA.
I have always been very intrigued and interested by ancient mythologies from the Greco-Roman and the ancient Egypt era. I loved to read stories and to learn about the “Divinities” of those eras.
Since an important part of my roots are Africa related and that most of my jewellery is heavily inspired by the waist bracelet that African women wear, it was obvious for me that “Africa” must also be part of my brand name.
Waist bracelets, commonly called "bayas" are often worn by African women and are ornaments that emphasize the sensual curves and enhance the body of women. It symbolises sensuality, seduction and beauty.
Bayas are mostly created with beads. You will find in my collections other materials used for making jewelry, as well as different styles of body jewellery.
You can also wear the waist bracelets as a necklace, hand bracelet and ankle bracelet.
Each piece of my jewellery, each creation, is unique. There is a story or a description for each of my creations.
All of the jewellery in my shop is 100% handmade by me in Geneva, Switzerland.
I hope that you will enjoy the colors, the inspirations and the quality of my jewellery.
The inspiration behind the DIVINITY OF AFRICA logo:
The brand’s logo draws its inspiration, on one hand, from the African savannah elephant. When one thinks of symbols of Africa, the lion is usually the first animal that comes to mind. Although it is my favorite animal, I am convinced that the elephant deserves more the title of king of the African savannah. It stands out from other elephants with its large tusks and wide ears. Its imposing stature allows it to move with elegance and discretion within the savannah, without any other animal daring to challenge it.
To complement this elephant, I turned to the celestial world. As a child, I was fascinated by the stories of Greco-Roman gods, and in creating my jewelry, I wanted to add a divine touch. This approach naturally led me to explore African deities more thoroughly, thus anchoring my work in my roots. This is how I discovered the goddess Oshun. Oshun, a deity of the Yoruba people of West Africa, particularly in Nigeria, rules over rivers and waterways and is always depicted adorned with gold jewelry. You will thus find beautiful jewelry inspired by the goddess Oshun adorning the elephant, giving it a divine dimension.
